Many people go on diets with hopes of achieving the body that they desire. They go to the grocery store and buy everything that they need for their diet of choice from vegetables to the best protein powders on the market to fresh fruits.  The arrive home from their grocery shopping session ready to begin their nutrition journey.

After a few days, however, the motivation can start to waver as they find themselves slipping into their addictions.  From being tempted by junk food to wanting to drink beer, there are a variety of things that can start to make people quickly cheat on their diet.

You may find yourself asking, “How do the people that have success on their diets do it?”  There isn’t any magic formula to being able to lose weight when you put your mind to it.  It’s all about having the tools to create self-control for yourself.  When it comes to not cheating on your diet, here are some of the best tips.

Drink More Water

Studies show that drinking water throughout the day can make your feel full longer, and will ease you away from the cupboards with the temptation to grab something naughty.

Try carrying around a water bottle with you throughout the day and take a few chugs of water if you feel hunger coming on.  Some people drink sparkling water instead of flat water since the carbonation makes them feel even more full.  Try adding some lemon or lime juice to your water to give it a little extra flavor.

Find Healthy Substitutes For Your Cravings

By identifying what your weaknesses are and knowing what makes you indulge you can make it a point to not keep these things around. If potato chips are your kryptonite try substituting them for something that is a healthier alternative, like kale chips.  This way you can get your “fix” without actually giving into the calories and extra fat.

By eliminating the culprits completely you will be less likely to fall into bad habits and throw your diet out of the window.

Get a Diet Buddy

They say that motivation comes from those that you surround yourself with.  Try making a pact with a friend who also has weight loss goals, and decide to do it together.  Anytime you feel like you are starting to feel the urge to run to the nearest fast food chain in your neighborhood try getting in contact with your diet buddy and have a talk.

You will find that if you have someone there who is doing it with you, you will feel a sense of camaraderie and less like you are the only person in the world not currently enjoying the joys of ice cream.
