Kitchen renovations are quite popular, but they need to be conducted with care. The kitchen is often the social hub of the home, and it’s also a room that needs to be able to stand up to plenty of hard use. As such, picking the right type of flooring is absolutely crucial.

Many people will automatically go for granite if they’re after a natural stone. Granite can be great, but you should still take the time to mull over your options. For example, limestone is great for kitchen floors, even holding several advantages over granite.

Welcome Glow

Probably the most compelling reason to choose limestone for your kitchen flooring is that this stone has a very warm hue – it actually seems to glow. Kitchens tend to welcome such a homey atmosphere, and you’ll find that limestone floors work well with wooden furniture, range cookers, and other more rustic features. In contrast, granite often looks a little too dull and impersonal.

Cost-Effective

Unless you happen to have just won the lottery, you’ll probably have a tight budget during your kitchen renovation. What with all the changes that must be made, costs can run up quickly, but you can cut down on them by opting for limestone instead of granite for your flooring. Of course, limestone isn’t ever going to be as cheap as a material like vinyl, but it’s incredibly cost-effective for a natural stone and certainly comes at a lower cost than granite.

Workability

It’s common for homeowners not to consider how workable different types of natural stone are, but this can make quite a difference during installation. For example, limestone is a very soft natural stone, especially when compared against granite. It’s still tough enough to hold up well for decades, but that relative softness means that limestone can be easily cut down into whatever size you want, providing a degree of design versatility that you wouldn’t enjoy with granite. That’s particularly advantageous in the kitchen, where flooring typically needs to be worked around lots of fixtures and inbuilt appliances.
