Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you want to eat a big meal, make it breakfast, since you’ll have the best chance of burning all of those calories off throughout the day even if you work a desk job. Breakfast gives you the energy to get through the day.
That’s why you need to take the time to have breakfast, even if you have to get it on the go or prefer to have someone else make it for you. Don’t just fill up on fatty and greasy foods, though. You still want to make wise choices with what you choose as your breakfast foods.
Healthy Fats
Bacon and sausage are some breakfast staples in many kitchens in many households, but they are not a healthy option. Full of things like unhealthy fats and sodium, they can seriously damage your heart health over time. If you must eat these foods, get turkey bacon or chicken sausage.
Healthy fats can come from using olive oil to cook your eggs in, eating eggs in general, and even from adding some avocado as a garnish on the side of your meal. Avocado is a great thing to add to any meal, including breakfast.
Fruits And Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are nutrient rich food you definitely need to add to your breakfast. Fruits can give you the sweet you crave at breakfast time, with less fat and calories than donuts and muffins.
You may think vegetables sound strange for breakfast, but they aren’t. Things like mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions all taste great in a breakfast scramble.
Whole Grains
Pass on the white bread and flour tortillas for breakfast and pick things containing whole grains. Whole grain bread or bread with seeds and sprouts in it is a much healthier choice.
You can also add grains to your meal in other ways. Try cooking up some couscous or some quinoa and adding it to your breakfast. You’ll be amazed at how good it is, and these ancient grains are very good for you.
Healthy Dairy
Technically, those people that don’t have a problem tolerating dairy foods are the odd ones, since people aren’t supposed to consume the milk of other animals or milk after they are babies. It’s simply not a natural thing and your body isn’t meant to digest it.
Instead of dairy, try something like almond milk or cashew milk. These nuts both contain a nice punch of protein that can help give you the energy your body needs to get through the day. If you do prefer “real” dairy, make smart choices by buying stuff that is low in fat. This will help keep you from feeling bogged down.
